Whose Liberty? Which Liberalism?

President Trump’s executive order commanding the suspension of all USAID’s support for projects in poor countries shocked many for its callous disregard for the human suffering caused by this sudden withdrawal of finance. Similarly, his administration’s harsh treatment of migrants seemed an affront not merely to the requirement of compassion but a snub to any doctrine of the equal dignity of all persons grounding their human rights.
