Public Lecture -
Professor Simon Conway Morris

Studies Quarterly Review  and the Iona Institute hosted a Public Lecture by Simon Conway Morris, Professor of Evolutionary Palaeobiology, University of Cambridge.

Simon Conway Morris

Prof. Conway Morris

Professor Conway Morris is one the world's leading experts on evolution. His outstanding scientific credentials make him particularly well qualified to critique the idea, promoted by writers such as Richard Dawkins, that the theory of evolution disproves the existence of God and makes nonsense of all theology.

On the contrary, says Professor Conway Morris, theories of evolution that reduce man to the chance by-product of random, mindless processes are themselves a form of (highly debateable) theology. This is one of the key arguments advanced in Professor Conway Morris’s latest and widely praised book Life’s Solution: Inevitable Humans in a Lonely Universe.

He discussed the current widespread misuse of Darwinian theory, which is very topical in view of the success of The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins, and similar best sellers.

This lecture took place at the Davenport Hotel, Merrion Square, Dublin 2, on Thursday 21st February at 8 p.m.
